The UK Stamp Duty Calendar Explained
Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT), commonly referred to as Stamp Duty, is a tax that must be paid by anyone purchasing a residential property in the UK. The amount of Stamp Duty payable is based on the purchase price of the property and can be a significant expense for buyers. The UK Stamp Duty calendar is used to determine the amount of Stamp Duty that must be paid on a property purchase.
The current UK Stamp Duty calendar for residential property purchases is as follows:
- Up to £125,000: 0%
- £125,001 to £250,000: 2%
- £250,001 to £925,000: 5%
- £925,001 to £1.5 million: 10%
- Above £1.5 million: 12%
For example, if you were purchasing a property for £350,000, the Stamp Duty calculation would be as follows:
- 0% on the first £125,000 = £0
- 2% on the next £125,000 = £2,500
- 5% on the remaining £100,000 = £5,000
Total Stamp Duty payable = £7,500
